The Manchester Evening News provided an update on Manchester United's personnel situation.
Manchester United were without Ahmad and Mount in the first round of the Premier League, but one of them is expected to return for the match against Ipswich Town.
Mount is expected to recover from a minor hamstring injury for Manchester United's match against Ipswich this weekend, but winger Ahmad will remain sidelined for an even longer period.
Mount has not appeared since being substituted in the first half of a friendly match against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg three weeks ago, when Manchester United initially called it a "precautionary measure".
Mount then missed the last two preseason friendlies and also failed to play in Manchester United's heavy defeat to Hull City in the Premier League opener last weekend.
The 27-year-old has been dealing with a minor hamstring injury, but he has returned to first-team training this week and should be able to return to the squad on Sunday; Ahmad will remain sidelined as he strives to return before the first international break of the season, which begins on September 21.
Carrick said: "Amad will not play this week. He will be out for a while longer. Mount has returned to the team, which is good. He has been training this week. This is very positive news for us."
Players who only returned to preseason training after the final week of the World Cup are also vying for starting positions, with Lisandro Martinez, Menu, and Rashford all trying to get into the squad from the start.
He said: "We have a squad to choose from. We have a good team and can choose different combinations within the team. So, we'll pick a team for the weekend. But yes, these lads are certainly very competitive."
