According to Diario Sport, Celta Vigo held a tribute ceremony for newly crowned world champion Borja Iglesias before their home game.
Balaídos Stadium was decked out in celebration for this moment. Before Celta Vigo's match against Osasuna, the striker walked onto the pitch with his Club World Cup medal, receiving a standing ovation from the Celta Vigo fans in tribute to the "Panda's" historic achievement. Iglesias also became the first Galician player to win the World Cup with the Spanish national team, and a Celta Vigo legend.
The tribute ceremony was originally scheduled for next Sunday before Celta Vigo's match against Athletic Bilbao. However, Barcelona had planned to honor relevant players on that day, but this event was ultimately cancelled after President Laporta conveyed the club's decision. Therefore, Celta Vigo used their first match of the season in Balaídos to honor Iglesias ahead of schedule, allowing him to receive a tribute from the home fans.
During the ceremony, the club presented him with a commemorative plaque, awarded by current club advisor and former captain Sergio Álvarez. The Celta Vigo striker, who was recovering from a muscle injury suffered earlier in the week, missed the match. The game had originally been postponed mid-month due to poor conditions at the Balaídos stadium.
